A circular … Read more A highly dimensional mixed media piece by Houston artist Stanley T. Harris features limbs and slashed stretched canvas. A circular form is painted in the middle, partially obscured by vertical and diagonal wooden slats. There’s a striking asymmetry, but the composition maintains a sense of balance through repetition and layering.
The use of found objects gives this piece a raw, organic post-modern brutalist aesthetic.

About the artist:
Stanley Taylor Harris was born on October 16, 1934 in West Monroe, Louisiana. His talent was evident from an early age, and he was a prolific artist his whole life.
Although fine art, especially painting, was his first love, he was also a talented design engineer. Stanley earned an undergraduate degree from the university of Houston with majors in fine arts, math and design engineering. He also completed coursework for the Master of Fine Arts.
Design engineering and art direction at oil and gas support services companies in Houston paid the bills for most of Stanley’s career, but in the last third of his life, he focused entirely on creating fine art. These two parts of his professional life come together because Stanley’s work hangs in the collections of many corporations across Texas.
Stanley’s passion was abstract expressionism. He worked primarily and acrylic but also loved watercolor and three-dimensional constructions. His constructions were often made from found materials and lots and lots of cardboard.
Stanley passed away in June 2016 after a brief illness but lives on through his amazing artwork, his wife Charlotte, his three children, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. See less
