This boldly hand-painted … Read more A rare and striking early 19th-century lidded jar by Mason’s Patent Ironstone China, dating to circa 1815–1820. This boldly hand-painted example features a vibrant Imari palette of cobalt blue, iron red, green, and ochre yellow, with richly detailed peony blooms and an exotic pheasant or phoenix-like bird framed by foliate scrolls and borders. The domed lid is topped with a deep blue finial trimmed in gilt.

This piece bears the early blue transfer “Mason’s Patent Ironstone China” mark with crown and banner, as well as a hand-painted red enamel pattern number “B 9799” — identifying a known floral-bird pattern used in Mason’s early catalogues.
