Elegant and refined Italian wall-mounted console in Louis XVI style. The sturdy structure, designed to be secured to the wall via dedicated holes located at the back edge, is made of gilt brass and supports a solid marble top. The finely crafted brass frame is cast and then hand-chiseled. The gilding was applied using an electroplating process and has naturally developed a beautiful patina over time, enhancing its decorative character. The Louis XVI style is instantly recognizable for its elegant lines, strict symmetry, and classical motifs such as acanthus leaves and Greek key patterns. The top is made from a highly prized and rare marble: Afyon Yellow, quarried in the Afyon region of Turkey. This marble is renowned for its outstanding durability and resistance to wear, making it an ideal choice for long-lasting furnishings. Its low porosity ensures excellent resistance to water and staining, while its hardness makes it scratch-resistant and easy to work with. One of its most striking features is its ability to reflect light, creating depth and luminosity — making it perfect for decorative pieces like this console. Based on its stylistic and construction features, we can confidently date this piece between 1930 and 1935, most likely crafted in an artisan workshop in Southern Italy, in the area of Rome or its province. During the early 20th century, this region was home to a refined production of neoclassical furnishings, with many foundries and workshops active since the second half of the 19th century, often producing both liturgical and private décor. As the capital of Italian Neoclassicism during the 18th and 19th centuries, Rome had a strong tradition of fine cabinetry, gilding, and metalwork for noble and bourgeois interiors. Further supporting this attribution is the growing popularity of Afyon marble in Italy during the 1920s, especially in southern workshops that were heavily influenced by French and neoclassical aesthetics. Thanks to the visual lightness of its gilt brass frame and the precious quality of the marble, this console is perfect for enhancing an entryway, hallway, or architectural niche. It blends beautifully in both classical and eclectic or contemporary interiors, where it can serve as a refined accent piece. Pairing it with a gilded mirror or a neoclassical print will further elevate its timeless charm. Due to the object’s visual complexity, its beauty may not be fully captured in the photographs. In some images, the marble top may appear slightly smaller than its base, but rest assured — this is simply an optical effect caused by the intricate structure of the piece. The console is in good overall condition. Dimensions: Width: 80 cm (31.5 in). Depth: 20 cm (7.9 in). Height: 32 cm (12.6 in). We ship all our pieces using professional packaging materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) to ensure maximum protection and safety during transport.
