A man of means, judging by the patterned and layered detail of his wrapped and belted robe, but not one too concerned about maintaining his dignity. The attributed artist, Chinese painter Yu Zhiding (1647-1709) was known to paint human figures, along with landscapes and pictures of birds and flowers. His skill was such that he taught according to the rigorous standards of the Imperial Painting Academy, founded in 984 and the first of its kind in the history of world art. See less
