Lovely gouache / watercolor on paper of a still life featuring a vase of peonies, a tea pot and china … Read more Lovely gouache / watercolor on paper of a still life featuring a vase of peonies, a tea pot and china cup/saucer, and two Asian style figurines. Signed ‘MR’ for the artist Madeleine Rouart (1896-1986, France). Rouart came from a family of art collectors who formed friendships with a few of the great artists of the Post-Impressionist era. See the summary sheet for an interesting bit about the artist (in photos). This framed painting came from an estate and has no additional paperwork. The date of the painting is unknown, but Rouart began showing her work in Paris in 1923 and throughout Europe until 1978. So, it’s likely from sometime in the mid to late 20th century. It’s a wonderful original painting from an intriguing artist. Professionally framed in a gesso & wood ornate satin gold frame with creamy ivory linen mattes. Ready to hang. See less
