Black and white photograph depicting a gravel dirt road through the mountains with vibrant white clouds contrasting with the dark sky by Peter McArthur (American, b. 1947).

Peter McArthur (American, b. 1947) is a long time Carmel Valley resident specializing in Black and white landscape photography. He is also one of very few artists in the country that hand make frames for his work from scratch.

McArthur has been photographing in black and white since 1965, when he first took a walk from Carmel point to Carmel beach with a camera and his girlfriend at the time. Once he saw the already beautiful coast in black and white, he was smitten with this new way to experience what was all around him, even though he had spent the previous years growing up there.

After attending M.P.C and Humboldt State College (1967-1970), McArthur returned to Carmel and continued photography as a hobby until he could start his own business selling his photographs and handmade picture frames. See less
