Item description:
a stunning two-handled vase with harpy-shaped handles, made of majolica ceramic, entirely hand-modeled on a potter's wheel and then hand-decorated with raphaelesque motifs and two ladies' faces in the center on both sides, finished with beautiful golden metallic glazes. The vase is signed "morroni tega gualdo tadino" in blue underglaze, dating to the first half of the 20th century. Particularly beautiful are the raphaelesque decorations on the belly of the vase and the two harpy-shaped handles on the sides, in green enamel with rich gold lustre finishes, as well as the two central faces, different on each side, painted with a brush by the decorator, with a scroll bearing the names of the ladies, "maria" and "elvia". Finally, the shape of the centerpiece is beautiful, reminiscent of ancient roman amphorae.
useful information for evaluating the object:
from a web search, we find that gualdo tadino ceramics by "morroni & tega" are offered at a minimum of €200 up to €2,700 for a large decorated plate offered on pamono. In general, however, ceramics from gualdo tadino sell at rather high prices, ranging from a few hundred euros to several thousand euros, depending on the size of the piece, the complexity of the decoration, and the artist who created the ceramic.
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
morroni & tega is an artistic ceramics company founded in 1928 in gualdo tadino by aiuto morroni and emilio tega, who left mastro giorgio, morroni's son ivaldo, and emilio tega's daughters smeralda and irma. The factory produces artistic majolica in the traditional gualdo style and copies of antique pieces decorated with lustre. In 1940, emilio tega and his daughters left the company and their shares were purchased by redento morroni, changing the name of the company to "morroni ivaldo & c.". In 1950, smeralda left the factory and founded her own company called "smeralda ceramiche," while redento continued production until 1958.
