Item description:
a stunning perfume bottle or small two-handled vase with a rounded body and flared mouth, made of fine hard-paste porcelain, entirely hand-decorated and further embellished with pure gold decorations in slight relief. Produced by the austrian manufacturer radler & pilz, marked under the base with a blue enamel mark. On the belly of the bottle is a beautiful portrait painted with a brush by ferdinand ii wagner, an important german painter, signed in the lower right corner by the artist "wagner." under the base is the red inscription "deposè regintered," which means that the model of the bottle and the decoration have been deposited and registered. The name of the subject depicted, "louise," is also present. She was archduchess louise of austria, born in 1870 and died in 1947. In the portrait, the archduchess is around 18-20 years old, so we are talking about a bottle made around 1890, and the patina of the object, especially under the base, is perfectly in line with our dating.
useful information for evaluating the item:
our research shows that similar items, of the same manufacture, are all offered at very high prices and boast quotations and auction results of over €4,000-5,000 for vases and bottles, even small ones similar to our item. Ferdinand ii wagner was an artist born in germany in 1847 and died in 1927. He has over 150 works sold at auction, mainly in the painting category, and the twelve highest results range from around €10,000 to around €40,000, excluding auction fees of 25-30%. For medium and small portraits, however, auction results range from €1,600 to €6,800, again excluding auction fees.
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
the radler & pilz factory was founded in 1864, when the imperial factory in vienna closed its doors for good, and it was the only factory that continued to use its trademark, namely the heraldic shield, still in blue enamel, but placed upside down, exactly as it appears on the trademark under our bottle. This factory specialized in creating portraits on porcelain from photographs or live models. The last photo contains historical information about the factory in french, for those who wish to learn more, with the same trademark found under our object, as proof of what has been stated.
