The … Read more Rare goldscheider art deco ceramic figure group of the 1930's: a dancing couple in traditional spanish costume is shown. The lady is wearing a mantilla, a veil that covers the head and neck down to the shoulders. Often, as here, a high comb, the peineta, is worn underneath. The scarf is still worn with traditional costumes today and is mostly made of lace. In addition, the dancer wears an asymmetrical ruffled skirt. Her dance partner wears trousers with side fringes, a sleeveless bolero over a short-sleeved shirt and a black, tight-fitting headscarf. The group is based on a black oval base. The dancer also exists as a single figure, see model number 5888. Designed by josef lorenzl (1892 - 1950), one of the most important designers who worked for the goldscheider manufactory in the period of 1920-1940. This model 5775 was created circa 1928.
