Own a Piece of History with This Stunning Antique Table!
Discover the timeless beauty of this authentic antique Pembroke table, a true gem for collectors and lovers of fine furniture. Crafted in the early 19th century from rich, solid mahogany, this drop-leaf table showcases the exquisite craftsmanship of a bygone era.
A Pembroke table is a small, drop-leaf table with drawers, often used for breakfast or tea. It's characterized by its ability to be extended by raising the hinged drop leaves. These tables were particularly popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. The name is thought to be related to Henry Herbert, 9th Earl of Pembroke, who was known for his interest in architecture and design.
The underside shows a rough, unfinished surface with visible tool marks, which is typical of pre-industrial furniture (before the mid-19th century). Hand-cut wood and irregular surfaces suggest craftsmanship from the 18th century, aligning with a Georgian period piece (circa 1780).
The use of wooden pegs and screws with uneven, hand-forged heads (rather than modern machine-made screws) supports a late 18th-century origin. Machine-made screws became more common after the 1840s.
The corner blocks and bracing are consistent with period construction methods, often used to reinforce joints in Georgian furniture.
Its elegant design and historical charm make it a perfect centerpiece for any sophisticated home.

The drawer functions smoothly, and the drop-leaf mechanism is intact, though there is a small chip on the edge of the top (visible in the close-up image), which does not detract from its overall beauty or functionality. less
