Hand-carved Egyptian Revival Anubis (the jackal-headed Egyptian god) sculpture carved in alabaster marble. The statue is styled after the Great Sphinx of Giza and features the body of an animal on a platform.
Anubis oversaw mummification and guided souls to the afterlife. It is said that a small Anubis sculpture offered protection for the deceased and symbolized safe passage. Living individuals might display it for protection against death or to appreciate their powerful, mysterious image
