Its … Read more This nifty piece of antique luggage is likely a very tall hat duffel or a hard case for travel. Its walls must surely hide colorful stories because it has obviously traveled many miles, as shown by the wear to its leather handle and woven straps. However, this piece remains strong and in remarkably good condition. It looks like it's made of sturdy cardboard with an outside liner, but we are not completely sure. Whatever it's made of, it has stood the test of time.

It is slightly oval in shape, measuring 27 inches tall and 13-14 inches wide. Brass tacks secure the top and bottom. The lid is easy to remove, and the inside is clean. We could smell no odors inside.
Due to its height, we suspect this hard-case duffel was used for storage by a traveling hat salesman; however, we've had difficulty determining an accurate history. We determined it is probably from the early 1900s, but we could not verify this.

This historic piece is sturdy enough to serve as a side table with handy storage, making it particularly useful in small spaces. See less
