Stamped "Breveté SGDG." This acronym, used in France from 1844 until 1968, indicates that a patent was filed, but without its proper functioning being guaranteed by the State.
It can be found on many objects, generally with innovative features for the time (table systems, alarm clocks, weapons, oil lamps, electrical systems and lighting, objects from the Paris Fair, etc.). Small metal studs are visible under the base; they were probably used to snap onto a stand.
These two hat stands are very elegant and resemble typical bathers from the Art Nouveau period. See less
