A very pretty bronze Chinese vase from the Chinese Republic Era. The open metal work adds depth to the design.
Each side of the vase has a central medallion with a relief of different mythical beast. Sinuous dragons form the open framework and phoenixes form the flat handles. The filigree effect gives the vase a very light and airy feel. The reign mark under the base is not decipherable. It was either poorly cast or is badly worn.
The vase has a rich brown patina and is relatively lightweight.
