a very unique west germany vase designed and produced by dumbler and breiden. More about this duo later. This beautiful brutalist vase has a unique texture and color, this texture is made by means of a self-designed technique and chemical reactions. With this vase they have added the unique detail of the thick rope. The vase is glazed on the inside and can therefore also be used with water. The vase dates from around 1960/1970. All vases designed by dumbler and breiden are of very high quality and original in design.
background of dumbler and knitting:
west germany dumler & breiden 1883-1995
the factory started its production in 1883 and was located in höhr-grenzhausen, a place that became known for its many ceramics factories. The founders were peter dümler and his brother-in-law albert breiden. Peter was a designer and was trained by reinhold hanke & simon peter gerz. Albert, who had been trained by his uncle s.p. Gerz, ran the company.
in the beginning, a lot of traditional pottery was produced such as beer jugs, punch bowls and cups. After the war, during the 'ceramics boom' of the 50s and 60s, the company went through a period of strong growth. From 1930 to the end of 1980, d&b was one of the leading ceramics factories. The production of beer jugs was largest between 1890 and the 1930s. The production of beer jugs stopped in 1957. A series of special vases was designed and is recognizable by the brand 'relief' on the bottom. At the end of the 60s, a copper-colored glaze was developed, in which fine copper particles are incorporated. It gives a sparkle effect in the light. Dümler & breiden was very successful but lagged behind the market leaders of the time, ruscha and scheurich. The company closed its doors in 1995. In addition to peter dümler, designers who were employed by dümler & breiden are: paul zimmerling, rudolf christmann, rudolf kügler and albin camillo müller. This piece has an attribution mark,
