A dynamic and monumental 1980s acrylic on canvas painting by artist Roy Schallenberg (1945–2010). This oversized abstract composition exemplifies Schallenberg’s signature style—combining hard-edged geometric forms with ethereal, airbrushed gradients. Sharp linear elements in deep magenta, black, and white intersect a soft atmospheric background of lavender, rose, and slate tones, creating a striking sense of depth and motion. Signed by the artist in the lower left corner. Unframed and gallery-wrapped on a reinforced stretcher. A powerful statement piece from a noted figure in late 20th-century abstract art.
ROY SCHALLENBERG.
Roy Schallenberg is a self taught abstract expressionist artist.
Born in South Africa and raised in Zambia, Central Africa, Roy Schallenberg has a painting career, which started in 1972. He has exhibited in many parts of the world, including Australia, Canada, Israel, Germany, England, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Venezuela and throughout the United States. He immigrated to the United States in 1976 and is now residing in South Florida and northern Michigan.
Schallenberg finds great excitement in discovering and working with different dynamics and synergy of paint, creating flows and movements unique to his vibrant style. The abstract and expressionist paintings are intended to be pure energy and represent only themselves in meaning and significance, reflecting the mood and understanding of the viewer. With airbrush, palette knife and brush, the artist works to weave color, texture, and aura into a fantasy of brilliance and spontaneity. Striving for innovation on his artistic journey, Schallenberg's goal is a dynamic sculpture collection, using the same strengths and flow found in his paintings.
Education:
He has admired and studied the styles of Leonardo Nierman, Paul Jenkins, Claude Monet and Jackson Pollack, all of whom have influenced his work. He has been a professional artist since 1972.
He attended Peterhouse Private School, Harare, Zimbabwe, from 1958 to 1962 and from 1963 to 1967 was Engineering Draftsman Apprentice at the Nchanga Copper Mine in Zambia.
