An Italian Art Deco vanity from the 1940s, reminiscent of designs by Osvaldo Borsani. Crafted from rich rosewood veneer, this piece is defined by sculptural legs with graceful inward curves, grounding the piece in architectural poise. The three drawers, softly contoured and covered in ivory vegan leather, are accented with geometric wooden pulls. A paneled mirror glass top complements the surface.
Osvaldo Borsani (1911–1985) was an Italian designer and architect born into a family of fine furniture makers. He studied fine arts at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan before pursuing architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. In 1943, he designed his own house in Varedo, Villa Borsani, which has since been preserved and serves as an archive of his work.
In 1953, Borsani and his twin brother founded Tecno, a design research and technology center, which would go on to produce a range of iconic 20th-century pieces. He was deeply influenced by the Modernist movement and collaborated with a variety of avant-garde artists on interior and furniture design projects. Borsani passed away in 1985 in Milan and is regarded as one of the most innovative designers of the 20th century.
