Side table ‘spectrum designed by danish designer arne wahl iversen for ikea in sweden in the 1960’s. During that era, ikea was only known in scandinavia and not yet a global brand, but they already partnered with upcoming and established designers like arne wahl iversen. This hall table shows some great eye for detail with the fine plywood handgrips and messing connectors. The drawer box is in teak veneer, the legs are made out of solid oak. Some using marks on the feet, further in very good condition, as shown in the pictures.
about the designer:
arne wahl iversen was born in nyborg, denmark, on november 9, 1927. He became a renowned danish furniture designer, drawing inspiration from his father, who owned a furniture shop in nyborg, about 80 miles west of copenhagen.iversen began his career as an apprentice cabinetmaker before studying furniture design at odense technical school.
from 1949 to 1951, he continued his education at the academy of fine arts in copenhagen, focusing on furniture making and design under the mentorship of kaare klint.at just 25 years old, iversen opened his own studio in his hometown, determined to create furniture that combined elegance with functionality, crafted using the finest techniques and materials.
in 1957, he began collaborating with ingvar kamprad, the founder of ikea, who sought fresh, innovative designs for the swedish company. By this time, danish furniture design was internationally recognized, with figures like arne jacobsen, finn juhl, and hans wegner at the forefront. Though iversen’s partnership with kamprad was short-lived, he contributed designs that helped shape the early ikea catalog. Back then, ikea was not a global megafirm yet, it was only known in scandinavia.
iversen’s pieces were produced in various factories across denmark, but he is best known for his work with komfort and vinde møbelfabrik. One of his most iconic designs, bedroom ‘no. 92’, was featured at the geneva furniture fair in 1968. During the fair, monaco’s prince rainier and princess grace kelly attended the exhibition and immediately ordered the set, further elevating iversen’s reputation. The endorsement of a royal and a hollywood icon helped establish his bedroom furniture as a sought-after design in the u.s. Market.while his furniture initially found success in denmark, by the late 1960s, iversen’s designs began to sell across europe and the united states.
he continued to create furniture until the mid-1980s and passed away on november 18, 2016, leaving behind a legacy of timeless, high-quality design. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
