These elegant tables fit nicely into each other. The tables show some scratches and using marks and beautiful patina from a previous life, as shown in the pictures. Overall in good condition. His work revolutionized how the world views furniture, blending functionality, beauty, and craftsmanship in ways that continue to inspire.born as the son of a shoemaker in tønder, southern denmark, wegner began his formal training as an apprentice to cabinetmaker h.f. Stahlberg from 1928 to 1932. Only aged 15, he had already crafted his first chair. Wegner went on to study at the danish school of arts and crafts (1936-1938) under orla mølgaard-nielsen, before working as a designer at the prestigious architectural firm of arne jacobsen and erik møller. During this period, he drew furniture for the åarhus city hall in denmark and collaborated with esteemed cabinetmakers johannes hansen and michael laursen. In 1940, he designed a rocking chair for laursen, his first item that was taken into mass production. In 1943 the doors of wegner’s own studio in gentofte opened up, setting the stage for his legendary designs.wegner’s work seamlessly combined modernist principles, nordic functionality, and masterful craftsmanship with unexpected influences, including the tradition of chinese furniture design, see for example his china chair. Over his lifetime, wegner designed more than 500 chairs, over 100 of which entered production and became icons in the design world. His celebrated pieces include the peacock chair (1947), the wishbone chair (1949), the round chair (1949)—which interiors magazine famously dubbed “the world’s most beautiful chair” and which was featured in the 1961 televised debate between john f. Kennedy and richard nixon—the shell chair (1949), the papa bear chair (1950), the flag halyard chair (1950), the dolphin chair (1951), the valet chair (1953), the ox chair (1960), and the wing chair (1960). Each of these designs exemplified his ability to create functional yet graceful furniture, often pairing solid wood with woven rattan, leather, and other fine materials. Wegner’s innovative use of traditional construction methods and his skillful blending of materials like plywood, metal, and paper cord made his work timeless.while wegner is best known for his chairs, his expertise extended to a wide range of furniture, including cabinetry, tables, desks, beds, and lighting. Throughout his career, he collaborated with some of the most respected manufacturers in the world, including ap stolen, carl hansen & søns, fredericia stolefabrik, getama, fritz hansen, erik jorgensen, louis poulsen, ry møbler, pp møbler, and andreas tuck.wegner’s designs are part of the permanent collections of major museums worldwide. He was honored with numerous awards, such as the grand prix at the 1950 milan triennale, the lunning prize in 1951, the eckersberg medal in 1955, and the 8th international design award in 1997.wegner passed away in copenhagen in 2007 at the age of 92, leaving behind a lasting legacy of design excellence.
