description of the item:
pair of asymmetrical majolica ceramic vases, modeled on a potter's wheel and decorated by hand with floral motifs, then glazed and fired a third time, signed by the artist both on the decoration and under the base with the z c mark of the zipoli caiani factory, dating from around 1920 and made in sesto fiorentino, italy.
final considerations on the object:
the distinctive feature of this pair is their asymmetrical size, one rather large and the other medium-sized, with identical shape and decoration, a beautiful variation on the more common combination of two vases of equal size and a strongly art deco element. The shape of the vases is very beautiful, in full art deco style, with a wide bulb strongly flattened towards the bottom and a beautiful mouth strongly folded in on itself and colored in black, contrasting with the delicate light sienna color of the bottom of the vases. The compact majolica glazing is very beautiful, very similar to the works of guido andlovitz or sttimio rometti. The floral decorations, entirely handmade, brushstroke by brushstroke, are also very beautiful. A rare and collectible pair of vases.
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
zipoli caiani, founded by brothers amato and gino zipoli caiani, already active in a small ceramic decoration workshop in sesto fiorentino, around the middle of the second decade of the 20th century in sesto fiorentino, in the premises of the former ceramic manufacturer "società ceramica federale," the company produced both historicist and traditional ceramics inspired by the ancient and modernist styles, drawing inspiration from the pontian line of novecentismo, often strongly inspired by "rometti" productions. The factory remained active until the late 1930s and early 1940s.
