A charming, richly worked, hand-embroidered folk textile panel from the Kalotaszeg region of Transylvania, celebrated for its distinctive Hungarian decorative arts tradition. Executed in vibrant wool thread on natural linen, the composition centers on a uniformed soldier with feathered hat holding the reins of a black horse adorned in bright red harness.
Surrounding the central vignette is a dynamic field of large floral rosettes, stylized spirals, and geometric bands in saturated shades of crimson, cobalt, emerald, and black. The highly textured embroidery features dense chain, satin, and couching stitches, demonstrating accomplished needlework typical of Kalotaszeg’s early–mid 20th century domestic production.
Mounted under glass in a simple contemporary light wood frame, this striking piece is a beautiful example of Central European folk art with strong decorative appeal. It offers designers and collectors a vibrant, storied accent—ideal as wall art for eclectic interiors, rustic-modern schemes, or globally inspired spaces.
A very versatile size that will fit well in many spaces. Dimensions: 19.5″ H × 20.5″ W (framed)
