An exceptional antique Quimper Porquier Beau platter handpainted in the Rouen style featuring cornucopias, a meandering flower vine, birds, butterflies, and a dramatic scalloped edge. Signed on the reverse with the overlapping PB early mark, indicating this piece was produced between 1873 - 1903.
This platter is pictured on Page 28 of the book "Quimper Pottery" by Bernard Jules Verlingue, founder of the Musee de la Faience de Quimper (Quimper Faience Museum).
In excellent condition for 19th century faience. There are a few glaze flecks on the rim edge and rim border, areas of wear, crazing and glaze crawling and pinholes which originate from the production process of the time. As is typical for Porquier Beau pieces the tin glaze background has a light blue-grayish hue. See phots for condition issues.
