Item description:
beautiful potiche vase with lid, oval body and elongated neck, made of vitrified hard-paste porcelain and polychrome, with white background and blue decorations, finished in pure gold and embellished with numerous flowers applied entirely by hand during a second firing on the main body of the vase and on the lid. Made by the "vecchia parigi" factory in 1844-1850. Under the base is the french inscription "médaille d'or, exposition de 1844, f.r., breveté, fournisseur du roi," which means "gold medal, 1844 exhibition, f.r., patented, supplier to the king." "f.r." are the initials of the artist who created the vase, francisque rousseau, an important french ceramist and supplier to the royal court, so we are certainly talking about an artist of considerable artistic importance who won the gold medal at the 1844 exhibition with one of his porcelain pieces and chose this inscription as the mark for all his subsequent porcelain pieces. The vase also bears a label from the art gallery that offered the object. The object is made in the full louis philippe style, a historical period spanning from 1830 to 1848, the last french royal court, an artistic period that marked the transition from french neoclassicism to romanticism.
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
our internet research has shown that francisque rousseau porcelain items are sold at auction for very high prices, ranging from a minimum of €1,000-1,500 for vases, figurines, or smaller, less elaborate bottles, to €5,000-8,000 for larger porcelain items and the most important pairs of vases. 000 for larger porcelain pieces and more important pairs of vases. In this case, the object is of medium size but is quite complex in its workmanship, considering that each flower is applied by hand, as is each decoration executed with a brush tip. However, it should also be noted that there are several cracks, all shown in the photos, which reduce its value, which is why the vase is offered at such an advantageous price.
