Pair of Liberty-Art Nouveau style vases in barbotine ceramic, shaped like lily flowers, entirely hand-decorated with floral motifs in light bas-relief, then glazed with a third firing, signed under the base with an antique mark, also in light relief, made by the French manufacturer Sceaux or Sarreguemines towards the end of the 19th century. The shape of the lily vases is truly beautiful and elegant. The dimensions are excellent, as you can see from the photo with the vases next to the wine bottle. The artistic level is very high, with an excellent antique patina.

The Barbotine technique refers to relief decoration obtained by spraying with a brush or spreading with a spatula diluted clay onto the fresh surface of terracotta pots, so as to make it rough with small lumps or dots or rippled waves or even to create a decoration, most often floral, in slight relief. The earliest examples of this technique can be found on ancient Minoan and Roman pots. The diluted clay itself, used to join two pieces together before firing, is also called barbotine. This technique was particularly popular in France in the second half of the 19th century, especially in the Sarreguemines and Onnaing factories.
