Item description:
Wonderful majolica ceramic sculpture, hand-modeled, glazed in white and vitrified, depicting the bust of an Asian girl. Equipped with a velvety base and made in full futurist style. The sculpture is signed on the base with a metal plate bearing the inscription "Domenico Matteucci Faenza." There is also a scroll under the base with the inscription "ceramiche artistiche Matteucci e Muky Faenza" (artistic ceramics by Matteucci and Muky Faenza), created by Domenico Matteucci in collaboration with his wife Wanda Berasi, known as Muky, around the middle of the 20th century.
Useful information for evaluating the object:
From internet research, we find that Domenico Matteucci's ceramics, large plaques depicting Madonnas with Child, or various figures in relief, faces and busts of women or girls, sculptures of various kinds, all glazed in majolica and vitrified, are offered for sale or auction at prices ranging from a minimum of €200-300 to over €900-1,200, depending on the size, quality, and auction house offering the item for sale.
Final thoughts on the object:
The oriental face of the child is beautiful, with narrow, elongated almond-shaped eyes, chubby cheeks, a flat face, and extremely expressive features. The back of the bust is also very beautiful, with the clothes extending in an extremely angular, almost unreal way, giving the sculpture a geometric flavor and recalling some elements of Futurism. A rare piece of great artistic importance, for art lovers and collectors.
