Item description:
a delightful pair of glazed and vitrified ceramic plates, decorated entirely in bas-relief depicting birds on branches with foliage and fruit. Marked on the back with one of the numerous marks of the sci factory in laveno depicting a stylized eagle and the inscription "verbanum stone," as well as the engraved name of the manufacturer. The relief decoration is particularly beautiful, which is very rare for similar plates from this manufacturer.
useful information for evaluating the item:
the sci laveno factory is one of the most important italian ceramics manufacturers of the 1900s, employing important artists such as guido andlovitz, antonia campi, angelo biancini, etc. The ceramics created by these important artists have achieved remarkable results at auction, even exceeding €10,000. This gives an idea of the importance of the factory. As for more ordinary ceramics, such as our saucers, auction prices and requests on other online sales sites range from €100-200 for simple, small items to €500-600 for larger ceramics with more complex workmanship. Bear in mind that although this pair is not particularly large, it features a rather rare and particularly beautiful bas-relief decoration.
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
founded in 1856 and definitively absorbed by richard ginori in 1965, the italian manufacturer s.c.i. (società ceramica italiana) in laveno is one of the most important manufacturers ever to have existed in the italian ceramics scene of the 1900s. Among the most important artists who collaborated with the manufacturer were the famous guido andlovitz, who was its artistic director from 1923 for almost 40 years, eleonor fini, antonia campi, angelo biancini, and many others.
