elegant victorian chromolithographs (color lithographs) taken from the illustrated book of the dog by vero shaw (cassell & co., 1879-1881), an encyclopedic work considered a milestone in nineteenth-century dog breeding, partly anticipating the current classification of breeds.
the plates depict dogs with great anatomical precision, often in natural or "show" poses, and are considered among the most beautiful in the history of canine illustration, much loved by collectors.
