The table is pretty long and large, making it perfect as a dining table for a large family, or someone who likes to entertain. Its proportions and line are very elegant and timeless. The lyre legs give it depth and the hand-carvings on the stretchers link very well the curvature of the legs to the straight edges of the top. The top is made of three long board nailed to the legs with large square nails, the corners are cantered and the edges are hand-carved in an ogee shape. As an additional support curved hand-wrought iron stretchers were added to the piece in the past. Although a later addition the iron stretchers match the style of the piece very well and do not look out of place. This is something that was done in the past and most definitely not in recent years.
