Used in Thailand as temple roof finials or in pairs at entrances to guard against evil spirits and natural disasters, the powerful, mystical naga are among the most revered Buddhist symbols.
With its soaring curving form and large size, this particular naga, is especially sculptural. It shows emerging detail. To make the naga, a large, heavy piece of teak wood was carved in its curving shape, then fitted with shimmering gold on the front, painted red on the back and set on a solid black wood base.
Piece measures 44" tall x 17 3/4" wide x 7 1/2" deep (including the base)
