Tom Waldron (American, b. 1953). "Shard" Sculpture. Material: Steel. Inscribed and dated 'Waldron 89' near the base. Measures 7.5 in. high x 14 in. wide x 3.25 in. deep.
Critique of the piece in the artist's words:
"As an early sculpture of mine. . . it looks like it’s been well cared for, I don’t think it has deteriorated at all. I often used old, somewhat pitted steel back then, and the joints were kind of roughly finished. It’s always a bit of of a shock to me to see work from the eighties with that sort of crude look; most sculpture from back then I eventually changed. " Tom Waldron 08/2020.
About the artist: For over 30 years, Tom Waldron has been hand fabricating elegant, seamless forms out of steel. His uncompromising craftsmanship and unique fluid volumetric vocabulary has made him one of the Southwest region's most well known and respected sculptors.
