This stunning tansu from the Kansai region, … Read more Antique Japanese two piece kitchen chest (Goshu Mizuya) from the late Meiji period. This stunning tansu from the Kansai region, is made of elm and cedar wood with persimmon accent panels featuring five drawers between four sliding doors. The large sliding door panels are made of solid vertical strips of elm/zelkova wood with bookmatched horizontal accent panels of persimmon wood. All of the drawer fronts are made of figured elm with hand made iron handles - all original with the exception of the small hinged door knob which is a replacement. The upper and lower inside spaces are not divided, it's just one big open storage area with long removable cedar shelves.
Whether used as a focal point in your kitchen or as a statement piece in your dining area, this exceptional tansu is a testament to the artistry and utility of Japanese design.
