An intricate Alpine village scene and a richly carved pedestal make this antique Black Forest tilt-top table a distinctive example of 19th-century Swiss craftsmanship. Crafted in Switzerland circa 1860, the occasional table features a circular top with a scalloped edge, showcasing contrasting wood inlays and a detailed central composition depicting villagers in traditional dress gathered around a fountain in a rural setting.
The decorative scene is framed by an octagonal border surrounded by beautifully figured burlwood, creating a striking contrast of warm wood tones. The tabletop rests on a boldly carved barley-twist walnut pedestal supported by three scrolling legs embellished with acanthus leaf motifs.
The tabletop tilts vertically when not in use, allowing the detailed artwork to be displayed. The antique table is in good condition commensurate with age and use, and retains a rich walnut patina. The tabletop has a slight warp consistent with its age. A wonderful accent for a living room, library, or mountain retreat.
