A fabulous antique HR Quimper charger or large plate featuring a petit Breton woman in the center and an a la touche border in green, red, and yellow tones with a French blue border. The colors and glaze on this piece are exceptionally vibrant for Quimper of this age which was made using wood fired kilns that did not provide precise quality control. Signed HR Quimper below the woman, this piece dates from 1896 - 1922.
In excellent antique condition with no cracks, chips, crazing, or repairs. There are areas of wear on the rim underside which originate from glaze skips and which cannot be seen from the front. The front has glaze skips below the woman, glaze pinholes, glazed over clay bits and one unglazed clay bit all originating from the production process. See photos for condition.
Dimensions are 11 7/8" diameter x 1 1/2" high.
