Hand carved lion's paw footed motifs were a popular design element incorporated in the elegant mahogany furniture from this period. Lion's paw feet were a symbol of strength and status, reflecting the influence of ancient Greek and Roman design. The dark rich mahogany shows little wear and the table is well built and sturdy. The top folds back to reveal a 35.5" square table top with rounded corners. The top easily pivots counter clockwise to rest on the base for a stable game or accent table. When the top has been pivoted, the left side can be opened to reveal a hidden storage compartment. It's perfect for games, tablecloths, extra candles, or anything you want out of sight. The hidden storage space is 17 3/4" by 14". It's nice have extra table space for addition food or decorations during holidays that closes back to only 18" in depth. The doily in the pictures is included. See less
