Vintage Propos lounge armchair by Hulmefa, produced in the 1960s in Nieuwe Pekela, the Netherlands.
This rare Dutch lounge armchair is made of teak and upholstered in a fabric in white, brown and yellow tones. The chair stands out for its beautiful, sculptural design and is part of the progressive Propos series by the firm Hulmefa of Nieuwe Pekela.
Originally, this is a so-called gentlemen's chair," which is reflected in the high backrest. At that time, gentlemen were expected to be able to lean back quietly after a day's work - often with smokes in their hands. A high backrest was therefore considered appropriate and comfortable.
