Dress a wall or interior niche with this elegant pair of antique hand-painted panels. Crafted in France circa 1860, each wooden panel is framed in a molded gilt border and rendered in the Rococo Revival style, featuring delicate scrolling floral garlands in soft tones of pink, green, and ivory. The central cartouches are adorned with beautifully executed trompe l’oeil vignettes, one celebrating the arts with a globe, books, inkwell, and draped fabrics; the other evoking music and military valor with a trumpet, axe, and quiver of arrows. Above and below, floral swags of roses and trailing foliage lend the compositions a lyrical sense of movement and romantic charm. Perfectly suited for a refined library, music room, or formal salon, this decorative pair offers a poetic and timeless accent for interiors steeped in history and elegance. The bucolic pieces are in fair condition commensurate with age and use, with rich colors and a soft green background. Each work bears a signature: one by Jean de Cossé Brissac, the other by Arnauld et Maurice de Cossé Brissac; They were Likely members of the French noble family de Cossé-Brissac, a lineage with centuries of history, closely tied to the Duchy of Brissac. Some paint chipping throughout the pair and one panel is slightly warped with a small split in the wood.
