Exceptional drawing from the early 1920s in Symbolist and Orientalist style. The Passepartout around the work was also created by the artist. Louise JANIN was born in 1893, in Durham, a hundred miles north of Boston. His family, of French origin, emigrated to New Orleans at the turn of the century and made a fortune in the mining sector. His father collected Far Eastern art and built up an important collection. Remariée, Louise's mother, settles in San Francisco. At school, the girl is already showing her drawing, music and theater projects. from the age of 18 he chose to be an artist, attended the Academy of Fine Arts in San Francisco and took advantage of the last teachings of William M. Chase, one of the greatest representatives of American impressionism. In 1915 he took a long trip to Asia with his parents and deepened his taste for oriental philosophies. Upon his return to San Francisco he regularly exhibited works of Hindu inspiration until 1920. In 1921 he moved to New York, exhibiting in Chicago and Saint Louis. In 1923 he undertook a trip to Europe, visited Italy, Paris and London and settled in Paris. He is 30 years old. from 1924 to 1931 his works were exhibited in France at the Bernheim-Jeune Gallery, the Salon des Orientalists, the Georges Petit Gallery and the Hindustan Pavilion during the Colonial Exhibition. In the United States they are presented in San Francisco and New York. Louise Janin then acquired an important reputation and became a recognized and celebrated artist of the Decorative Arts. In 1926 the meeting with František Kupka and their exchanges on art gave rise to a true friendship. Louise's work will therefore move away from figuration and integrate a cosmic vision of the world. His works are in various museums including the Pompidou Museum in Paris "The Dragon" from the same era as the drawing of the Hindu deity. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
