Item description:
A wonderful apothecary jar, made of glazed majolica ceramic, produced in central Italy, either in Montelupo or, more likely, in Deruta, dating from between the late 1600s and the early decades of the 1700s, with a Latin inscription on parchment inside the jar reading "Aqua Pelvis," meaning "The water of the Basin," probably water taken from some reservoir or tank with very clean water. Decorated with garlands of blue and purple flowers, made in a spiral pattern on the rest of the vase, and a cherub's face in relief just below the handle. Medium-sized spout, slightly flared, base decorated with a band of slightly oblique blue lines, which we also find above the spout on the upper part of the vase below the mouth, narrow and thick handle, twisted with two curls going inwards, at the top and bottom of the handle. The antique patina covering the vase is wonderful and very evident, especially under the base.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
From our internet research, we found that three vases similar in style, a small jar from Rome, were listed by the Italian auction house Pandolfini at €2,000 - €3,000, another, slightly larger, attributed to Montelupo, was listed by the Italian auction house Cambi at €3,000 - €4,000, and finally, an albarello, similar in size and decoration but with a different shape, made in Faenza, was listed at €2,000 - €3,000, all to give an idea of the value of similar items. Keep in mind that we are talking about auction bases, prices that could easily rise during the auction. This object is antique, rare, and of great artistic importance, a real gem for art lovers and collectors.
Weight of the object: 0.826 kg.
