This is a very distinct and large scale art deco lounge chair in velvet and oak, made in the 1930s. Probably Dutch or Belgian. A chair of monumental proportions - it is 104 cm / 41 inch - wide. A true statement piece. It is upholstered in rich brown velvet and its plush upholstery is accentuated by a tufted backrest with delicate button detailing. The generously proportioned seat and high, slightly winged, backrest offer both comfort and grandeur, while the gracefully curved armrests feature carvings in oak. The sides of the chair have a distinctive and almost sculpted quality, with a smooth, flowing silhouette that narrows slightly toward the base.
