beautiful ceramic box modeled entirely by hand on a potter's wheel, glazed with silver glazes, vitrified, and finished with metallic lustres, giving it a striking rainbow coloration. Signed under the base with the artist's initials "v. M." and with the place of production immediately below "albisola." the object was created by vittoria mazzotti, an important italian ceramist working in albisola capo. The large circular knob on the lid, entirely hand-modeled, is very beautiful, as is the scalloped edge of the mouth, also hand-made, giving the effect that the box is made of fabric, a particularly difficult and highly prized technique.

information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
vittoria mazzotti (albisola 1907-1985), daughter of giuseppe mazzotti and sister of tullio, after separating from the rest of the family in 1959, moved with tullio to premises in via aurelia and, together with her husband mariano baldantoni, her mother celestina and her daughter esa, continued the family ceramics business under the name "v.m.a." (vittoria mazzotti albisola). In 1966, the factory exhibited at "ceramiche omaggio a n. S. Di misericordia" held in albisola. The factory, whose trademark until 1984 was "v.m.a" or "vm albissola," passed into the hands of esa, vittoria's daughter and wife of rinaldo rossello, in 1985. She changed the name to "ceramiche mazzotti-esa," the name under which she brands the production, and shares ownership with her son giovanni rossello.
