Wonderful antique ceramic vase, entirely handmade on a potter's wheel, with small handles and a mouth made with four inward folds. It is entirely glazed and decorated by hand with floral and animal motifs. It is signed under the base with an antique blue underglaze mark from the Montelupo Fiorentino factory, dating from between the 16th century and the very early 17th century.

Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
The mark under the base was used from 1540 to 1600, Casa Sinibaldi.

Useful information for evaluating the item:
Our research shows that Montelupo ceramics dating from the same period, some similar in size to our vase and some slightly larger, are auctioned for between €6,000 and €9,000, with maximum estimates of €12,000-18,000 for a single vase.

Final considerations on the item:
The vase has a beautiful patina, clearly visible under the base and on the small chips, where you can clearly see that the ceramic is black and dark, blackened by the many years of the item's life. The shape of the vase, especially the semicircular areas of the mouth with small handles and the wide belly, as well as the decorations used, are quite common in Montelupo Fiorentino majolica vases from the 1500s-1600s. The mouth was folded by hand to create four semicircular sections, while the circular crowns, hand-painted with leaves and flowers on the mouth and leaves on the base, are the classic decorations of the oldest vases from Montelupo.
