These chairs were made by the impressive cabinet maker Joseph Gerte in Boston. The chairs are made of solid mahogany. They are a hoop back chairs with heavily carved carved backed with bell flowers in a Hepplewhite design The arms are carved and terminating with a rosette at the end of each arm. This is one of my favorite chairs it looks very delicate but I have never seen one broken.
I have been a high end mahogany and specializing in Boston Cabinet makers for over 38 years. This particular cabinet maker never signed his chairs and with the handling this partucular style and construction can guarantee these to made by this cabinet maker Joseph Gerte
