Beautiful box from Sorrento, black lacquered wooden jewelry box with cherry wood and walnut root inlays depicting dragons, dolphins, and floral decorations. Inside there are several compartments, all lined with velvet, and there is also a small oval mirror on the inside, at the top of the box. The four feet of the box are onion-shaped, like those of 19th-century furniture. The item can be dated to around the mid-19th century and the wonderful patina that covers it, especially on the inside, is perfectly in line with our dating.

Our research shows that similar Sorrento boxes, also from the 19th century, are sold at auction for a minimum of €300-400 for the simplest ones, up to over €1,000 for those with more complex workmanship. Please note that many boxes similar to ours are very recent, reproductions of antique ones such as ours. Furthermore, those that receive higher quotations and auction results are precisely the oldest boxes, lacquered in black and richly inlaid, just like our box.
