Item description:
delightful glazed and vitrified ceramic bust, entirely modeled and decorated by hand, depicting the bust of a young woman. Signed under the base with the incised signature "mica." made by the m.i.c.a. Factory in sesto fiorentino and belonging to its early production, dating back to around 1930. The excellent patina on the object, especially under the base, confirms our dating.
useful information for evaluating the object:
our research shows that mica has achieved several auction prices with significant results. Consider that a pair of vases was quoted, back in 2013, by the italian auction house "antonina" at €1,800-2,200, while for figurines similar to ours, the starting prices at auction were as high as €300-350, back in 2008. We are talking about prices that, compared to today, taking inflation into account, would undoubtedly be much higher, and auction fees of 25-30% must always be added to the final result.
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
the company "m.i.c.a." (manifattura italiana ceramica artistica) has been operating in sesto fiorentino since 1928, under the management of siblings giulio, giannino, and giannina ciampi. The production, which in the 1950s was carried out in the workshops at via vittorio emanuele 163 in sesto fiorentino (fi), consisted of modern-style majolica and earthenware, often decorated with an airbrush or brush in the pre-war pieces, while the later pieces generally consisted of white glazed works with details and decorations in pure gold applied in a third firing.
