The sculptural armchair … Read more The design from 1902 comes from the architect Wilhelm Schmidt and was carried out by Prag Rudniker.
The sculptural armchair anticipates the design language of the Vienna Secession: strictly geometric, light as a feather and yet extremely stable.
The production of the chair was so complex (only screw connections for the thin oak boards, additional bentwood for the armrest, special brass screws) and therefore very expensive that only a few pieces were made.
The armchair was published in a specialist magazine ("Das Interieur 1903") but was not included in series production.
There is currently no version available in the art trade.
The wood has been carefully refinished, the upholstery is original, the fabric cover has been renewed and is a Hoffmann design by Backhausen
