The diamonds are bead set, all with high tables, for an overall presence of luminous sparkle. A border of milgrain work creates a boundary along the exterior of the cross. In the center, there is a natural black pearl—which would have been very rare at the time—with beautiful purple and grey undertones. On the back, you can see the cage setting that holds each individual diamond, built with exquisite craftsmanship. It connects from a matching bail that contains a single diamond, and hangs from a platinum chain.

The Maltese Cross is an ancient symbol with Byzantine roots that dates back to the 6th century. It is a symbol of protection, honor, and courage. The eight-points of the cross represent the eight vows of the Knights of Hospitaller to live in truth, have faith, repent of sins, exhibit humility, strive for justice, be merciful, have sincerity, and to endure persecution.

The pendant contains 85 natural antique Old Mine Cut and Old European Cut diamonds. They are G-H in color and VS1- SL 2 in clarity. They range in size from 1 - 2.5 mm, and weigh approximately 1.3 of a carat. The pendent measures 1” across. The chain is 17” long. The piece weighs 8.54 grams.
