Antique carved wood and metal three-legged plant stand. This fantastic stand could also be used as a pedestal by adding something round to the top to make it flat. The wood is intricately carved, with carved metal, maybe bronze, dragons or lizards and face masks around the top section. Inside is a green metal, likely copper, pot with holes in the bottom for drainage. When the metal bowl is removed one can see remnants of very old French paper with writing. It seems like a Chinese antique, but maybe it's French as the paper has been there for a very long time. There is a lower shelf with more carving around and on it.
The mix of intricate wood carving, metalwork, and the potential history tied to both French and Chinese influences makes it even more intriguing. The dragon or lizard motifs, along with the face masks, could indeed suggest an Eastern influence, but the presence of old French paper inside the piece adds an element of mystery and complexity. Given the combination of wood and bronze-like metal, this could potentially be an example of an antique piece that blends styles from both cultures, which was fairly common in the 19th and early 20th centuries, especially with the rise of interest in exotic and cross-cultural designs. The French might have been drawn to Chinese art and design at the time, incorporating it into their own works, which could explain the mix of elements. The claw feet on the base of the three curved legs and the overall detailed craftsmanship make it feel both regal and functional.
The history is a bit of a mystery, but the piece itself seems to tell a rich story through its design.

There are some scuffs, dings, and scratches, and one crack in the wood at the top. Mostly the small imperfections and flaws just add to the patina and don't take away from its charm. less
