An exquisite trio of antique original seaweed prints c. 1851. Landsborough, David, includes (1) Callithaminon, Ceramnion, Ptilota 07, (2) Bostrychia, Gigartina, Rhodymenia, Graciaria 11, and (3) Hyena, Ceramium, Catenella, Dumontia 10. Excellent antique condition, ready for framing.
David Landsborough (1779-1854) was an Ayrshire minister that had many pursuits; he studied algae, mosses, zoophytes, and fossils; he liked butterflies, spiders and moorland plants. Landsborough was employed to write a Popular History of British Seaweeds in 1849, and was then commissioned to prepare a similar Popular History of British Zoophytes or Corallines, which was published in 1852.
