The shape is angular which is rare, almost an art deco feel. You can see the age of the vase by its yellowing and crazing of the unpainted parts. Probably earthenware or stoneware with a glaze to resemble porcelain, the technique was developed in the 17th century in Kyushu Japan. This piece is probably from the late 19th century. No identifying makers marks are present, also typical of old Satsuma production.. The cross or x on the bottom is common in Satsuma pieces. More modern Satsuma pieces have the cross in a circle or square with additional mark identifying the pottery. See less
