Thirteen states announce secession from England. Louis XVI has a symbolic tapestry woven, in which France comes to the aid of the new states against England. This is a copy of the tapestry exhibited at the MET in New York, which is part of a series of four tapestries (1978.404.1-.4) and fifty-six pieces of furniture (1978.404.4a-c-.18a-c) depicting the four continents: America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
